WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-Oakland) released this statement following the appointment of Dr. Eric Goosby as Global AIDS Coordinator:
“I applaud the appointment of Dr. Eric Goosby as Global AIDS Coordinator. A Bay Area native, Dr. Goosby has been a pioneer in the fight against the global AIDS pandemic and has extensive international experience in the development of treatment guidelines and models for HIV/AIDS. What is most important is Dr. Goosby brings the moral commitment required to address this pandemic.
“Dr. Goosby has served as the deputy director of the White House National AIDS Policy Office as well as the director of the Office of HIV/AIDS Policy under the Clinton Administration. As CEO and Chief Medical Officer of the Pangaea Global AIDS Foundation, Dr. Goosby played a crucial role in the development and implementation of HIV/AIDS national treatment scale-up efforts in Rwanda, South Africa, China and Ukraine.
“I congratulate Dr. Goosby on his well-deserved appointment, and I encourage the Senate to move quickly to confirm this appointment.”
