Congresswoman Lee Commemorates Veterans Day
Oakland, CA – Congresswoman Barbara Lee, a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs, offered the following statement marking Veterans Day:
“On Veterans Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who’ve served and sacrificed for the nation that we love. As the daughter of a veteran and a member of Congress, I’m committed to ensuring that we keep our promises to our veterans and military families who have served selflessly and answered out nation’s call of duty.
“My father, Lieutenant Colonel Garvin Tutt, served in World War II and the Korean War. Like many African American veterans, he faced discrimination but persevered to serve and protect his country. As a member of the funding committee on Veterans’ Affairs, I work each day to honor his legacy and make sure that every servicemember and veteran is able to live with dignity and security. Congress can and must do more to end veteran homelessness, help servicemembers come home to good-paying jobs, and strengthen health care services for veterans and their families.
“To every veteran and their loved ones, we thank you for your service and your sacrifices.”
