Congresswoman Lee Condemns Reports of Violence in Sudan and Urges Support for Transition to a Civilian-led Government

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In response to reports of violence and killing over the weekend during peaceful protests in Sudan, Sudan Caucus Chair Barbara Lee (CA-13) released the following statement:

“I am deeply concerned by reports of at least seven people killed and another 181 people wounded during peaceful protests in Sudan.

“This violence is unacceptable, and I continue to call for an independent investigation into violence against peaceful protestors in Sudan. The United States must take a leadership role in supporting the people of Sudan as they continue their calls for a civilian-led government.”
