(Washington, DC) — Congresswoman Lee today introduced a resolution recognizing the significance of Caribbean-American Heritage Month, which is celebrated in June.

“It is wonderful to see our hard work to establish June as Caribbean-American Heritage pay off as communities across the country are preparing commemorative celebrations of the 3rd Annual Caribbean-American Heritage Month in June.

“From our nation’s inception, the Caribbean-American community has played an important role in our history, culture, and government and this resolution pays tribute that that great heritage.

“As we prepare to host the annual Caribbean American Legislative Conference here in Washington in June, this resolution helps enhance diplomatic relations by recognizing Caribbean nations’ contributions to the history, growth and success of the United States.

“By commemorating the Caribbean-American community we celebrate the rich history and diversity of this nation.  That diversity and the designation of June as Caribbean-American Heritage Month should be an achievement celebrated by all.

Lee played a critical role in the designation of June as Caribbean American Heritage Month.  In both 2006 and 2007, President Bush designated the celebration after both the House and Senate passed a resolution authored by Lee in the 109th Congress to support the establishment of June as National Caribbean-American Heritage Month.
