Congresswoman Lee Issues Memorial Day Statement

Oakland, CA - Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) issued the following statement in observance of Memorial Day:

“As we celebrate Memorial Day, we remember the men and women who have fought and given the ultimate sacrifice to protect our country and defend our freedoms.

As a nation, we must honor their sacrifice and the sacrifices of their families by guaranteeing them the very best care and the resources they need to transition back to civilian life.

This Memorial Day, we must reaffirm our commitment to caring and serving our veterans and their families with the respect and gratitude that they deserve.

As the daughter of a veteran, my thoughts and prayers are with each mother, father, spouse, sibling, son and daughter on this day. I offer my deepest gratitude for the service of your loved ones and the sacrifices that you and your family have made for our nation.

Congresswoman Lee is a member of the Appropriations and Budget Committees, the Steering and Policy Committee, is a Senior Democratic Whip, former chair of the Congressional Black Caucus and co-chair of the Progressive Caucus. She serves as chair of the Whip’s Task Force on Poverty and Opportunity.
