Congresswoman Lee Issues Statement Marking 15th Anniversary of 9/11
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee released this statement recognizing the 15th anniversary of September 11th, 2001:
“Fifteen years ago, our nation endured horrific terrorist attacks that shattered our sense of security. In response to this unimaginable tragedy, the American people united.
In that dark time, families, friends and neighbors reached out to help one another ,and the American spirit prevailed over fear.
Today, we honor the thousands lost on that day and since from 9/11-related illnesses. As a nation, we continue to extend our deepest sympathies to their families and friends; they forever remain in our thoughts and prayers.
We salute the selfless first responders, firefighters, police officers and ordinary people who risked their own safety, and in many cases sacrificed their lives, to help others. We owe them an unpayable debt of gratitude. As a nation, we have an obligation to honor their sacrifices by ensuring access to quality healthcare, monitoring and compensation.
As we remember the unity that emerged from these terrible events, we must recommit to one another and our nation. I encourage all to join the National Day of Service and Remembrance and give back to their communities.
