Congresswoman Lee Issues Statement on Anniversary of 9/11

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee released this statement recognizing the 19th anniversary of September 11, 2001:

Nineteen years ago, the world witnessed a terrible attack against our nation.Today, we honor the thousands lost on that day and those we’ve since lost to 9/11-related illnesses. As a nation, we continue to extend our deepest sympathies to their families and friends; they forever remain in our thoughts.

We salute the selfless first responders, firefighters, police officers and others who risked their own safety, and in many cases sacrificed their lives, to help others. We owe them a deep debt of gratitude and we must repay their sacrifice by ensuring that they have access to quality healthcare, monitoring and compensation.

“This year has brought about great challenges for our nation which require us to again, remain united. As we fight back the most devastating impacts of a public health crisis, the climate crisis, and the crisis of losing Black lives to injustice, we must remain resilient and stand strong together.

We remember the outpouring of American spirit in those days and recommit ourselves to one another and our nation. As we mark this day, I encourage all to join the National Day of Service and Remembrance and give back to their communities.”
