Congresswoman Lee Marks Labor Day

Oakland, CA – Congresswoman Barbara Lee released this statement marking the Labor Day holiday:

“On Labor Day, we pause to celebrate the hard-working men and women who make up the backbone of our country. From building the world’s largest and strongest economy to creating world-class, quality products, working people are the foundation of America’s strength. Today, we honor them and pay tribute to the Labor Movement that has grown the middle class, expanded worker benefits, improve safety standards and opened new doors of opportunities for American families.

We must continue this tradition of supporting working families. Unfortunately, too many families are on a treadmill of work that simply doesn’t pay enough to live.

In Congress, I am proud to join my Democratic colleagues in outlining an agenda that supports workers. From raising the minimum wage and ending wage inequality to keeping jobs in America and ensuring the opportunity to earn paid leave, our plan helps families open new doors of opportunity.

This Labor Day, let us honor the courage and determination of American workers.”
