Congresswoman Lee Opposes Today’s “Misguided” Keystone XL Vote

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Barbara Lee released this statement in opposition to today’s Keystone XL pipeline vote in the House:

“Once again, the House Republican leadership continues to pursue misguided principles and put special interests ahead of working families and our national security.

We are 17 days away from a shutdown of our vital Homeland Security department. Instead of taking immediate action to ensure the safety and security of American families, the Republican leadership is pursuing a major corporate giveaway - the Keystone Pipeline - that would have disastrous effects on our environment and the health of millions of Americans.

I strongly oppose the Keystone XL pipeline and today’s unnecessary vote. I have consistently opposed all efforts to approve the Keystone XL pipeline and today’s bill to automatically approve the pipeline is no different.

I call on my Republican colleagues to stop their special interest agenda and get back to working for American families by ensuring DHS funding, creating good-paying jobs, advancing comprehensive immigration reform and taking real action to elimination poverty.”
