Congresswoman Lee Reacts to SCOTUS Decision to Preserve Mifepristone Access
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Barbara Lee, Co-Chair of the Pro-Choice Caucus, released the following statement on the SCOTUS decision handed down today in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine (AHM) v. FDA.
“This baseless case was brought by anti-abortion extremists who will try any tactic to attack reproductive rights and freedoms. Mifepristone is extremely safe and effective: the FDA approved its use in 2000, and it has been used by over 5 million people since to safely end their pregnancies. While one correct ruling does not forgive the rights this Court stripped from the American people, I am pleased by today’s decision by the justices to preserve access to this fundamental form of reproductive care. No judge’s ruling—now or in the future—can change the scientific and medical facts: mifepristone and misoprostol remain the gold standard for medication abortion care. As Co-Chair of the Pro-Choice Caucus, I will continue fighting to guarantee reproductive freedom to all people in this country, regardless of income, race, ethnicity, gender identity, or location.”
