Congresswoman Lee Releases Statement on President Trump’s 2019 State of the Union Address

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Barbara Lee released the following statement on President Trump’s 2019 State of the Union:

“I was disappointed but not surprised by President Trump’s speech tonight.

“In his first two years in office, President Trump has presided over three government shutdowns, undermined the economic security of working families, and brought an unprecedented culture of chaos and corruption to the White House.

“Nothing in President Trump’s speech tonight indicated that he is willing to change the harmful rhetoric and policies that have brought us to this point.

“While President Trump continues to align himself with the politics of division, House Democrats will be busy working for the people. In Congress, I will continue to advocate for bold, progressive policies – like raising the minimum wage, expanding access to health care, acting on climate change, rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure, lowering the cost of college, fixing our broken immigration system, ending President Trump’s isolationist foreign policy, and building peace with other nations around the world – until the state of our union is strong once again.”
