Congresswoman Lee Statement on “Muslim Ban” SCOTUS Decision

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) released the following statement after the Supreme Court announced their decision on Trump v. Hawaii:

“This is a dark day for America. The Supreme Court ruling in Trump v. Hawaii betrays our constitution and advances fear, rather than facts. This decision echoes the notorious 1944 ruling in Korematsu v. United States, which allowed the federal government to peddle xenophobia and deny families their basic human rights. Trump v. Hawaii will similarly be remembered as a stain on our nation and an abdication of our fundamental American values.

“Despite the ruling today, my colleagues and I will keep fighting against the Trump Administration’s bigoted, Islamophobic agenda. We are not alone and we are not without hope. Last year, the American people rose up to defend our immigrant brothers and sisters. We waited in airports, demonstrated in the streets, and worked through the night to reunite families and stand with Muslim Americans. This decision does not change the character of our country and I know that this fight is not over.”
