Washington D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-09) released the following statement regarding the situation in Egypt:

"I am appalled by reports of increasing hostilities and violent crackdowns in Egypt and I urge an immediate cessation to the violence. Egypt must begin an orderly transition of power now, on the basis of peaceful discussions, and in a manner that meets the democratic aspirations of the Egyptian people.
