Washington, D.C.– Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) released the following statement following today's press conference held by Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, and Congresswoman Janice Schakowsky.

“The report issued by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce further underlines the persistent, unrelenting War on Women being waged by the Republicans in the House of Representatives. The report shows that the attacks have not been only been targeted at reproductive health care services for women, but have included cuts to funding for nutritional assistance programs for pregnant women, nursing mothers and families."

“Of the 55 times that the House Republicans have voted against women in 2011 and 2012, 7 were votes to cut funding for key nutrition programs for women, including votes for significant cuts in Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). Cuts such as these are particularly devastating for women of color, poor and low-income pregnant women, new mothers, and infants for whom WIC provides  nutrition, food counseling, and support each month. This is just outrageous. As a Member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, I will continue to stand and fight for the protection of women's rights, and for investments in families.”
