Congresswoman Lee to Attend International AIDS Conference
Durban, South Africa – Congresswoman Barbara Lee, co-chair and co-founder of the Congressional HIV/AIDS Caucus, will attend the 21st International AIDS Conference. She is the only Member of Congress attending the Conference; she has attended all but one International AIDS Conference since being elected to Congress.
“Every two years, the global community comes together to share best practices, discuss remaining challenges and recommit to achieving an AIDS-free generation,” said Congresswoman Barbara Lee. “As we work toward ending this terrible epidemic, it is vital that the U.S. and Congress maintain our robust commitment to combating this disease and providing resources for those living with the virus.”
Since entering Congress, Congresswoman Lee has authored or co-authored every major piece of HIV/AIDS legislation including the framework for the Global Fund. She serves on the powerful funding committee, including the subcommittees that oversee domestic and global funding for programs that combat HIV.
