Oakland – Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-Oakland) will join leaders from the Oakland Community Organization (OCO) and local clergy from the interfaith community during OCO’s immigrant prayer vigil and press conference at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 30, 2010 at the Christ the Light Cathedral, 2121 Harrison Street, Oakland, CA.

Congresswoman Lee will join OCO and interfaith community leaders in calling for immigration reform and to speak out against the state of Arizona’s newly signed immigration law, widely considered the toughest anti-immigration law in the nation. The law allows Arizona authorities to ask for immigration papers from anyone whom they suspect may be in this country illegally.

As Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, Congresswoman Lee joined President Barack Obama in characterizing the recently passed Arizona law on immigration enforcement as “misguided and “patently unconstitutional.”
