Congresswoman Lee Welcomes Pope Francis to Washington DC
Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee joined the White House ceremony welcoming His Holiness Pope Francis to Washington, DC.
“It was a pleasure to join the nation in welcoming Pope Francis to Washington, DC,” said Congresswoman Barbara Lee. “I look forward to his historic address before Congress and I hope that his positive message of social justice, environmental stewardship and compassion will guide policymakers as we seek to create opportunity for all and preserve our fragile planet.”
For the historic address before a Joint Session of Congress, Congresswoman Lee will be joined by Oakland’s Father Jay Matthews, rector of the Cathedral of Christ the Light.
“The excitement that surrounds the Holy Father’s visit is contagious, touching the minds and hearts of men, women and children of faith and good will,” added Father Matthews. “It is my hope that his presence and message will last well beyond the sound bite.”
