Washington D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-09) announced that the National Endowment of Arts will provide $175,000 in federal funding to support four art-related endeavors in the Ninth Congressional District.

The funding for these grants is being made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and is designed to help support projects that involve the creation and presentation of artistically excellent work – both new and established.

Awardees include:

Crucible of Oakland: $50,000 to support the preservation of jobs that are threatened by declines in philanthropic and other support during the current economic downturn.

Kala Institute of Berkeley: $25,000 to support the preservation of jobs that are threatened by declines in philanthropic and other support during the current economic downturn.

National Federation of Community Broadcasters of Oakland: $50,000 to support the preservation of jobs that are threatened by declines in philanthropic and other support during the current economic downturn.

Berkeley Repertory Theatre: $50,000 to support the preservation of jobs that are threatened by declines in philanthropic and other support during the current economic downturn.

“The arts are an important expression of American culture,” said Congresswoman Lee. “I am pleased that we were able to allocate these funds so that our rich artistic legacy will be preserved for our posterity and celebrated for years to come.”
