(Washington, DC) - Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-9) issued the following statement in response to the resignation of Fidel Castro:

“Certainly Fidel Castro was a historic figure and his resignation represents a historic change for Cuba. But it is also a historic opportunity to change 45 years of failed US policy toward Cuba.

“It is the perfect time to finally end the ineffective embargo and travel ban and I call upon the Bush administration to seize the moment.”
