Lee, DeLauro Introduce Diaper Bank Awareness Week Resolution
WASHINGTON, DC – Co-Chair of the Majority Leader Task Force on Poverty and Opportunity Barbara Lee (CA-13) and Chair of the House Appropriations Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today introduced a resolution hailing the week of September 26th as National Diaper Need Awareness Week.
“One in three families do not have enough diapers to keep their children clean, dry, and healthy,” said Chair DeLauro. “In one of the richest countries on earth, that is totally unacceptable. I am thrilled to join with my friend and colleague Congresswoman Barbara Lee to express our gratitude for local banks and distribution programs and encourage Americans to continue to donate generously to support their local diaper bank and children who are in need.”
“One in three families cannot afford diapers, and nearly half of families have opted to delay changing their child’s diaper to extend their supply,” said Congresswoman Lee. “We must do more to ensure that millions of families throughout our country have access to necessities for their children. I am proud to introduce this bill with my colleague Congresswoman DeLauro to ensure that families have the resources and support they need.”
