Lee, DeLauro Statement on Biden Administration’s Release of Additional Vaccines for Global COVID-19 Response
Washington, DC — House Appropriations Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Chair Barbara Lee (D-CA-13) and House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) released the following statement on President Joe Biden’s announcement that the United States will provide an additional 20 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine around the world:
“The Biden administration’s announcement today is welcome news. We are pleased that the United States is showing leadership in the global fight against COVID-19. We have been advocating for greater U.S. action to respond to this crisis globally for months. Using COVAX is the right thing to do to ensure that doses reach the most vulnerable first.
“This is a clear demonstration that under Joe Biden’s leadership, America is back. Twenty million vaccines represents an important symbolic contribution to get us back on track, but we need to remember that much of the world is still at the very beginning of this vaccination effort. The United States needs to stay focused for the long haul. Until COVID is crushed everywhere, everyone is still at risk. We will continue working on the House Appropriations Committee to keep up this fight.”
