Washington, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) issued the following statement in observance of Memorial Day:

“On Memorial Day, it is my hope that we all take the time to honor the men and women who laid down their lives for our Nation’s most treasured and highest ideals – freedom, liberty, and democracy.  Let us honor the sacrifice of those who died by ensuring that the mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, sons and daughters, and fellow soldiers left behind receive the very best our Nation can provide.  Memorial Day will have a more profound and personal significance for many families this year – those who are mourning the loss of one of their own and those who have loved ones serving far from home.  As a way to honor these heroes, I ask that we recommit ourselves to caring for and serving our veterans and their families.”
