Lee Statement on 2 Year Anniversary of Haiti Earthquake

Contact: Ricci Graham (510) 305-2954

“Today my thoughts and prayers are with the families of the hundreds of thousands of Haitians who perished in the terrible earthquake on January 12, 2010.  I express my condolences and solidarity with the people of Haiti as they continue to emerge from the aftermath of disaster.

“Two years later, more than six hundred thousand Haitians are still without permanent homes and the country remains imperiled by the threat of cholera.  More than $2.38 billion have been invested in Haiti, yet only 43% of relief funds have been disbursed.  We need to bring transparency and accountability to reconstructing Haiti.  Let this be the last anniversary outdoors for those who lost their homes two years ago today.”
