National Head Start Association Awards PROMISE Award to Rep. Barbara Lee
Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-13) received the National Head Start Association’s PROMISE Award for her long-time advocacy and support for Head Start.
“We are delighted to honor Congresswoman Barbara Lee for her stalwart support of Head Start,” said NHSA Executive Director Yasmina Vinci. “Congresswoman Lee has remained steadfast in her commitment to serving our nation’s most vulnerable children and families, and we look forward to continuing our work together to prepare at-risk children for success in Kindergarten and beyond.”
Congresswoman Barbara Lee serves on the House Budget and Appropriations Committees, including the education funding subcommittee.
“I am truly humbled to receive this tremendous honor from the National Head Start Association. NHSA and its members are the true champions for Head Start and all of its successes,” said Congresswoman Lee. “Head Start is an investment in our children and their future. Every child deserves to go to kindergarten ready and prepared to learn; Head Start ensures that for our most vulnerable kids.”
Despite the fact that Head Start directly invests in American children, Republicans have cut funding over the last five fiscal year. Congresswoman Lee joined others in fighting to secure a 6.6 percent ($570 million) funding increase for Head Start in the Fiscal Year 2016 Omnibus spending bill.
