Pro-Choice Caucus leaders’ condemn Supreme Court decision to reinstate Trump mifepristone restrictions

Washington, D.C. – Barbara Lee (D-CA) and U.S. Reps. Diana DeGette (D-CO), as co-chairs of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus, issued the following statement after yesterday’s Supreme Court decision to grant the Trump administration’s request to reinstate a harmful FDA policy requiring women to pick-up mifepristone - a pill used to safely and effectively induce an early abortion or treat an early miscarriage - in person:

“The Trump administration’s outdated policy forcing women to unnecessarily travel to hospitals or clinics to pick up mifepristone puts both patients and providers at risk. We’re deep into a pandemic that has strained our health care system and heavily restricted travel - which only makes visiting a hospital, clinic, or doctor’s office more dangerous.

“It’s critical that people across our country - no matter their background - have timely access to the reproductive care they need to plan their families, lives and futures. We’re calling on the Biden administration to reverse this rule - and ensure that everyone who needs this essential health care can access it - immediately upon taking office.”
