Pro-Choice Leaders in the House: Republicans Must Stop Undermining Title X & TPPP
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) and House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY), alongside Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-CA), Congresswoman Judy Chu (D-CA), Congresswoman Katherine Clark (D-CT), Congresswoman Diana DeGette (D-CO), Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (D-WA), Congressman Jerry Nadler (D-NY), Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), and Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-CA), released the following statement after congressional Republicans asked the Trump administration to add new restrictions on critical reproductive health programs:
“Once again, congressional Republicans are trying to interfere in the personal health care decisions of patients and their doctors. A domestic gag rule would force Title X health care professionals to deny women access to critical information about their reproductive health options. This is censorship, plain and simple.
“The Republicans’ extreme anti-health agenda doesn’t stop with Title X. Right now, the Trump administration is attempting to dismantle the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program, despite its long track record of success. Young people shouldn’t be pawns in this White House’s ideological crusade against basic reproductive health care.
“Women and young people deserve a government that will protect their health care – not willfully undermine it.”
