Rep. Lee Named to Appropriations, Budget Committees for the 118th Congress

Washington, DC – Rep. Barbara Lee announced today that she has been named to serve on the House Appropriations Committee and the House Committee on the Budget in the 118th Congress.

The Congresswoman will serve as Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs. As the former Chair of this subcommittee, Rep. Lee will continue her longtime advocacy for international peace and diplomacy, human rights, HIV/AIDS treatment, global health, climate justice, and the United Nations.

She will also continue serving on the Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies. On this subcommittee, Rep. Lee serves as a principal advocate for healthy and safe communities, health equity, anti-poverty initiatives, educational opportunities and workers' rights.

Rep. Lee will continue serving on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies. On this subcommittee, Rep. Lee serves as a champion for everyday families by advocating for critical domestic anti-poverty and food assistance programs.

Congresswoman Lee will again represent the Appropriations Committee on the House Budget Committee, where she advocates for community investments, defends our nation's safety net, and fights to reduce our bloated military budget.

“It is an honor to continue my time as a senior Appropriator and on the Budget Committee, and I am excited to get to work using this position to help deliver not only for Californians but for people across the country and throughout the world,” said Rep. Lee. “Alongside my fellow House Democrats, I am focused on lowering costs, creating better-paying jobs, making our communities safer, and defending our freedoms. As Ranking Member of State and Foreign Operations, I look forward to working with my colleagues to address pivotal issues such as global poverty, hunger, education, gender equality, reproductive justice, economic inequality, climate change, and much more.”

“I have had the privilege of working with and fighting by Congresswoman Barbara Lee’s side on the House Appropriations Committee for years, but last Congress, I saw firsthand how Representative Lee used the role as Chairwoman of the State-Foreign Operations Subcommittee to strengthen American leadership around the world and to recommit to peace and security globally. I can think of no better person to continue to lead the fight for strong investments in development, diplomacy, and humanitarian aid in the 118th Congress,” House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro said. “With her advocacy on the Labor-HHS-Education and Agriculture-Rural Development-FDA subcommittees, we made great strides to reverse decades of underinvestment and lower the cost of living for working families, create better-paying jobs, help communities most in need, and keep our nation and communities safe. I look forward to working with Representative Lee to ensure the great strides we made together are not eroded.”
