Representatives Lee and Miller Announce Financial Aid Workshops "Cash for College 2006" Will Help East Bay Students

(Oakland, CA) - Representatives Barbara Lee (D-Oakland) and George Miller (D-Richmond), executive officers of Willie McGee Foundation and East Bay Consortium, and other local elected officials and organizations announced their collaboration on a series of financial aid workshops designed for East Bay High School students at a press conference at Richmond High School today.

"Education is the key that unlocks the doorway of dreams and opportunity, yet too many of our nation's young people are knocking on that door, only to find that it has been bolted shut by high tuition costs and a lack of access to financial aid," said Lee. "Let's make sure that the door to education is open for all to pass through."

The goal of the Cash for College Workshops is to help East Bay students realize their potential by to increasing the number of students who are aware of and submit applications for FAFSA and Cal Grant funding and increasing the number of students who enroll and pursue post-secondary education in college, trade, or vocational schools.

The Willie McGee Foundation (WMF) and East Bay Consortium/Cal-SOAP (EBC) in conjunction with the offices of Representatives George Miller and Barbara Lee will host a series of six free financial aid and income tax preparation workshops, East Bay Cash for College 2006, for eligible East Bay high school seniors and college students to take further advantage of financial aid opportunities for academic year 2006.
