Congresswoman Barbara Lee Issues Statement on the Passing of David Glover

Washington, D.C.— Barbara Lee (D-Oakland) issued the following statement on the passing of David Glover:

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of David Glover, and my thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.

“David has been a driving force in revitalizing neighborhoods and communities throughout the Greater Oakland/Bay Area region. As the Executive Director of OCCUR, he initiated key projects and policies such as the Eastmont Technology Center, the Neighborhood Profiles, the Oakland Equity Policy and the “A Model Built on Faith” program.

“Mr. Glover’s tireless efforts to improve the lives and conditions of low-income residents, neighborhoods and communities has been nationally recognized and commended.   He was the recipient of countless service awards including the Community Service Awards from the Niagara Democratic Club, National Association of Black Planners, National Council of Negro Women, and the Bay Area Black United Fund, a Profile in Excellence Award from KGO TV, among others.

“Mr. Glover was a founding Board Member of the Greenlining Institute and served several boards including the Oakland Advisors, the Stewardship Council, the Oakland Partnership and the Berkeley Law Foundation.

“When I met David many years ago, I immediately recognized the depth of his intellect and his indomitable spirit.  I was deeply humbled when he endorsed me early in my campaign for the California State Legislature. I knew his endorsement commanded the respect and trust of voters. For that, I will be forever grateful.”
