Congresswoman Lee Condemns U.S. Embassy Move to Jerusalem

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Barbara Lee condemned the move of the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, amid clashes that killed dozens of Palestinians:

“By moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, the Trump Administration has unnecessarily escalated tensions in the region and set back decades of bipartisan work towards a two-state solution. Make no mistake: this is a backwards step that will push peace even further out of our grasp.

“I mourn the violence and loss of life in Gaza. I will continue to urge both the Israeli and U.S. governments to take bold action to help improve the conditions for the people of Gaza and to prevent further bloodshed.

“Only sustained diplomacy can ensure lasting peace and security for the Israeli and Palestinian people. The U.S. should be laying the groundwork for peace and a two-state solution – not fueling conflict in the region and pre-determining the outcome of Jerusalem.”
