Congresswoman Lee Opens New BART Connector and Station

Oakland, CA – On the occasion of the opening of the BART-Oakland Airport Connector and Oakland Airport Station, Congresswoman Barbara Lee released this statement:

“Today’s ceremony marks the culmination of 40 years of work to make this project a reality.

There were many obstacles to ensuring this station and connector could be built. I was pleased to have been part of the negotiations to address these challenges and to ensure federal resources for this critical project. These were tough issues but everyone understood the importance of this project and worked together to bring it to fruition.

Forward-thinking transit solutions like this connector are a perfect example of how local, state and federal resources can have a significant and positive impact on our communities.

This connector will provide convenient, speedy and environmentally-friendly access to the Oakland International Airport thus improving quality of life and promoting regional economic growth.

As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fight for federal resources to make smart and sustainable investments in our nation’s transportation and transit infrastructure.”
