Barbara Lee Announces 111th Congress Surface Transportation Project Requests for California's Ninth Congressional District

Washington, D.C. – On behalf of the Ninth Congressional District of California Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-9) submitted the following requests for funding in the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Bill. 

Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District

  • AC Transit service area Line NL for environmental review, preliminary engineering, and final design for corridor improvements from Oakland to San Francisco via Grand-MacArthur Bay Bridge in Alameda County, CA. Amount requested: $3 million.
  • Construct real-time transit upgrades to AC Transit’s communications systems in Alameda County, CA. Amount requested: $5 million.
  • Construct facilities upgrades to make use of alternative energy sources, reduce unnecessary energy use and reduce harmful emissions and effluents to protect the environment at AC Transit facilities in Alameda County, CA. Amount requested: $5 million.

Alameda County Congestion Management Agency

  • Project development including environmental and preliminary engineering for the I-80 / Gilman Interchange project in north Alameda County, CA.  Amount requested: $5 million.
  • Conduct planning, environmental review, preliminary design, engineering and construction for the eastbound I-80 Integrated Corridor Management project in west Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, CA. Amount requested: $15 million.
  • Prepare preliminary design, conduct the environmental review and right of way acquisition for the I-880 Park Street Triangle area improvements in the City of Oakland, CA. Amount requested: $5 million.

Alameda County Public Works Agency

  • Acquire Right of Way and Construction, Crow Canyon Road, Alameda County, CA. Amount requested: $10 million.
  • Construct Pedestrian Facilities in Unincorporated Areas of Alameda County, CA. Amount requested: $6 million.
  • Design, Conduct Environmental Review, Acquire Right-of-Way, and Construct East Lewelling Blvd Streetscape Improvements in Unincorporated Alameda County, CA. Amount requested: $10 million

Alameda County Transit Improvement Authority

  • East Bay Greenway Project: Finalize environmental review, prepare final design, and acquire right-of-way in Alameda County, CA. Amount requested: $5.2 million.

Bay Area Rapid Transit

  • Purchase and Deploy Rail Cars – San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), CA. Amount requested: $300 million.

City of Berkeley

  • State Route 13 (Ashby Avenue) Construct and Install Corridor Signalization Improvements in Berkeley, CA. Amount requested: $2,275,000.
  • Construct San Francisco Bay Trail Extension Project – Berkeley Waterfront, in Berkeley, CA. Amount requested: $1,760,000.

City of Emeryville

  • Design and construction of a bicycle and pedestrian bridge over Interstate 80 between Powell Street and Route 13, Emeryville, CA. Amount requested: $12.5 million.
  • Construction of a bicycle and pedestrian bridge over Interstate 80 between Powell Street and Route 13, Emeryville, CA. Amount requested: $10 million.
  • Design of a bicycle and pedestrian bridge over Interstate 80 between Powell Street and Route 13, Emeryville, CA. Amount requested: $2 million.
  • Design and environmental remediation of the Ashby/Shellmound I-80 Interchange between Powell Street and Route 13, Emeryville, CA. Amount requested: $5 million.

City of Oakland

  • Rehabilitate roadways, install curb ramps, repair sidewalk damage and install bike lanes in the City of Oakland, CA. Amount requested: $5 million.
  • Construct roadway improvements including signalization and lighting in the vicinity of 42nd Avenue and High Street in Oakland, CA. Amount requested: $5 million.
  • Conduct environmental review, plan, design, engineer and construct pedestrian bridge retrofit, streetscape improvements, and plazas for the Coliseum Transit Village and West Oakland Transit Village in Oakland, CA. Amount requested: $5 million.
  • Design, Install and Deploy an Intelligent Transportation System in Oakland, CA. Amount requested: $5 million.
  • Design and Construct Roadway Improvements at the former Oakland Army Base in the City of Oakland, CA. Amount requested: $5.5 million.

Port of Oakland

  • Design and Construct New Utility Infrastructure to Provide Alternative Power for Ocean-going Vessels at Berth (“Cold-Ironing”) at the Port of Oakland, CA. Amount requested: $5 million.
  • Funding to support the design and engineering for the construction of the 7th Street Grade Crossing and Roadway Improvement project at the Port of Oakland, CA. Amount requested: $5 million.
  • Design and engineer the construction of the Oakland Army Base Intermodal Rail Development (Outer Harbor Intermodal Terminal) at the Port of Oakland, CA. Amount requested: $5 million.

Water Emergency Transportation Authority

  • Construction of a new ferry terminal and related facilities in Berkeley, CA. Amount requested: $15 million.
