Oakland, CA - Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) issued the following statement in observance of Memorial Day:

“As we celebrate Memorial Day, the memories of the men and women who so bravely gave their lives for our country are in our hearts and our minds.

“Let us honor the sacrifice of those who have died by ensuring their families and fellow soldiers left behind receive the very best our Nation can provide.  We must ensure that our veterans and their families receive quality medical care, timely benefits claims processing, and we must expend every resource available to help them successfully transition into civilian life.

“Memorial Day will have a more profound and personal significance for many families this year – those who are mourning the loss of one of their own and those who have loved ones serving far from home.  As the daughter of a veteran who bravely fought in two wars, my thoughts and prayers are with each mother, father, spouse, son and daughter on this symbolic occasion and I offer my deepest gratitude.
