One of Five Members of House and Senate to Win in Both Categories
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee was recognized as a leader in website design and social media excellence by the the Congressional Management Foundation (CMF), a nonpartisan nonprofit working to improve communications between citizens and Congress and enhance operations in Capitol Hill offices.
“I’m honored to be recognized by the Congressional Management Foundation. As people all across the country engage their members of Congress through digital means, it’s vital to keep up and break new ground to ensure that Congress stays accountable, transparent, and relevant,” said Congresswoman Lee.
In the category of Citizen Engagement on Social Media, Congresswoman Lee was awarded a Gold Mouse for using social media to “caucus” with other Members around the Food Stamp Challenge. The Foundation’s study sites excellence in “demonstra[ting] coordinated leadership and shared resources in ways that broadened the outreach and impact on the issue far beyond what would have been possible via mainstream media alone. They made the issue more understandable and used social media as they are meant to be used.” In the category of Best Congressional Websites, Congresswoman Lee was awarded a Bronze Mouse, showing leadership in content, functionality, and design.
Additionally, Congresswoman Lee is one of only five members of both the House and Senate to win in both categories, marking a tremendous achievement.

A total of 70 personal office and committee websites received a Gold, Silver, or Bronze Mouse Award. An additional 17 Senators and Representatives received the first Gold Mouse Awards for social media. Founded in 1977, CMF is a 501(c)(3) nonpartisan nonprofit dedicated to helping Congress and its Members meet the evolving needs and expectations of an engaged and informed 21st century citizenry. Its work focuses on improving congressional operations and enhancing citizen engagement through research, publications, training, and management services.
