Congresswoman Barbara Lee Recognizes Indigenous Peoples Day
Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-13) today released the following statement in commemoration of Indigenous Peoples Day:
“Today we celebrate the contributions, culture, and spirit of Tribal Nations. For far too long, the United States has ignored the immense harm inflicted on Native American communities - including decades of systemic injustice, neglectful policymaking, and climate inaction.
“It’s past time we acknowledge the harm done to indigenous people, usher in a truth telling moment, and recommit to enacting policies that invest in the prosperity of tribal nations.
“On this Indigenous People’s Day, I stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities in California and across the country as we commemorate the contributions of all Native Americans. We must continue fighting to protect their rights and repair the damage of the past.”
