Congresswoman Barbara Lee Releases Statement on Deadly Attack at the U.S. Capitol
Washington, D.C. –– Congresswoman Barbara Lee issued the following statement on the violent attack at the U.S. Capitol today resulting in the tragic death of U.S. Capitol Police Officer William F. Evans in the line of duty:
“I am shocked and profoundly saddened by the events that occurred at the U.S. Capitol this afternoon. Fortunately, our staff in D.C. is safe and sound.
“Capitol police risk their lives for the safety of Members of Congress, Congressional staff, custodial staff, and the entire community at the U.S. Capitol every single day. This year has been incredibly difficult for the Capitol, those who work there, and those who protect it. Capitol Police have remained courageous and committed to their duty following the violent insurrection on January 6th, and we owe them an incredible debt of gratitude for their unrelenting work.
“My deepest condolences and prayers go to the family, friends, and colleagues of fallen Capitol Police officer William “Billy” Evans, and I continue to pray for the health of the other officer currently in the hospital with injuries. Officer Evans’ life was taken far too soon. May he rest in peace.”
