Congresswoman Lee Announces $1.2 Million in Funding Through Affordable Care Act to Enroll Californians in Health Care Coverage

Oakland, CA--Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee announced over $1.2 million in federal funding for six East Bay community health centers to assist in the enrollment of uninsured Californians into affordable health coverage. The funding was made available through grants from the Health and Resources Services Administration (HRSA), an agency of the Department of Health and Human Services. The HRSA grants provide funding to hire outreach and eligibility assistance workers to educate Americans about new health coverage options created by the Affordable Care Act.
“Healthcare is a human right, and this funding goes a long way in ensuring that everyone has unfettered access to healthcare. As a longtime advocate for universal access to healthcare and a strong backer of the Affordable Care Act, I am proud to support local efforts to enroll the millions of uninsured Californians into affordable healthcare plans,” said Congresswoman Lee. “These health centers are central to the goal of providing affordable health coverage.”
The six HRSA grantees in California’s 13th district are the County of Alameda ($138,552), Asian Health Services ($165,645), Children’s Hospital and Research Center ($68,152), La Clinica de la Raza ($473,612), Lifelong Medical Care ($236,826), and the West Oakland Health Council ($176,909). The HRSA grants are part of a nationwide effort to expand awareness of new health coverage options.
