Congresswoman Lee Announces Over $950,000 in Federal Research Grants for the University of California at Berkeley

Oakland, Calif.— Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee announced over $950,000 in federal funding for three research projects at the University of California at Berkeley. This funding is part of the National Science Foundation’s mission to support research projects in science, technology, and education.
“I am so proud to see Berkeley receive this research funding from the National Science Foundation,” said Congresswoman Lee. “UC Berkeley has a long history as a leader in the fields of science, technology, and education research, and The National Science Foundation funding will help them continue that prestigious legacy.”
The National Science Foundation awarded $500,000 to fund "TWC: Small: A Choice Architecture for Mobile Privacy and Security," under the direction of David Wagner, to work on the future of security for mobile devices, such as cell phones and tablets. Secondly, $449,998 will go to fund "Social Dynamics: Leveraging Online Social Networks to Shape Science Identities and Support Learning Science Concepts in Middle School Students," under the direction of Lynn Tran, which will investigate how face-to-face teaching and the use of online learning platforms can help middle school students. Finally, $8,836 was awarded to fund research entitled, “Rights Mobilization, Citizenship and Identity," under the direction of Evelyn Glenn, which will explore the social movement activism of undocumented Asian and Latina/o youth advocating for immigration reform. All award recipients are affiliated with the University of California at Berkeley.
