Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Lee applauded the passage of her amendment to increase funding for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) research by $5 million. The amendment, which was included in the FY2015 Defense Appropriations, would provide for additional MS research, development, testing and evaluation under the Defense Health Program.

“This increase in funding is a critical lifeline to the more than 2 million people worldwide living with MS,” said Congresswoman Lee. “This illness is also having an effect on our armed forces. Twenty-three thousand veterans are currently being treated for MS, and for a significant number of them the illness is considered ‘service-related.’”

“In order to understand and eventually cure this chronic disease, researchers, doctors, and individuals living with MS need our support," Congresswoman Lee added. “My wonderful sister Mildred showed me what it’s like to live with MS and I’m consistently amazed by her bravery and optimism. She and the millions living with MS are a testament to the importance of investing in finding a cure.”
