Congresswoman Lee Marks Veteran’s Day
Oakland, CA – Congresswoman Barbara Lee, a member of the Veterans Affairs funding subcommittee, offered the following statement marking Veterans Day:
“Every year, on November 11th, we pause to honor the brave men and women who have served our nation. As the daughter of a veteran, I am deeply proud of our current and former service members, who have served and continue to serve this country with dignity and honor.
Our men and women in uniform and their families make tremendous sacrifices when they answer the call of duty. As a member of the Veterans Affairs funding subcommittee, I am committed to ensuring that our nation keeps its promise to them. Congress has an obligation to serve our heroes and their families by ensuring that they have good-paying jobs, housing and healthcare when they come home. That is why I am continuing the fight for the construction of a new world class VA outpatient and mental health clinic at Alameda Point.
Today, despite their world-class training and service, far too many veterans struggle to find work. I have introduced the INVEST (Incentives for our Nation’s Veterans in Energy Sustainability Technologies) Act (H.R.260), which would provide tax credits to renewable energy companies for hiring our nation’s veterans. We should INVEST in jobs for our veterans, advanced technologies and sustainable energy; it’s a win-win-win.”
