“Our Immigration Policies Should Keep Families Together,” Says Congresswoman Barbara Lee
Oakland, CA – Congresswoman Barbara Lee, a member of the Democratic Immigration Task Force, released this statement following the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit decision to maintain the injunction against the DAPA and expanded DACA programs:
“Today’s decision by the 5th Circuit is misguided and deeply disappointing. For more than 50 years, our nation has had a clear legal precedent for the use of executive action on immigration policy.
Our immigration policies should keep families together. Continuing to stall DAPA and DACA only perpetuates our broken immigration system which unfairly and cruelly tears families apart.
While I remain confident that the President’s executive action will be upheld, Congress must act now to pass bipartisan, comprehensive immigration reform.
Republican leadership and the Tea Party minority have held families and our nation hostage for too long with their extreme anti-immigrant policies that are frankly anti-family.”
