Congresswoman Lee: “Our Nation is in Mourning”

Oakland, CA – Congresswoman Barbara Lee released the following statement condemning the violent attacks on the Jewish and African American communities, and the domestic terrorist attacks targeting Democratic lawmakers:

“Our nation is in mourning. We mourn the eleven lives stolen from us in the anti-Semitic attack at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh and the two African Americans killed in a racially-motivated shooting in Kentucky. We share in the horror of the multiple bombing attempts, targeting prominent Democratic officials and the media. And we acknowledge, sadly, that these were not isolated incidents. After all, it’s been just one year since white supremacists marched on Charlottesville, leaving a young woman dead and dozens injured.

“President Trump’s rhetoric, rather than ratcheting down tensions, has further fanned the flames of xenophobia and bigotry. In memory of the innocent Americans senselessly murdered this week, we need to demand that our leaders use their positions to bring people together and spread understanding, rather than creating divisions within our society.”
