Congresswoman Lee Responds to President Obama’s Speech on Rebuilding Cornerstones of Middle Class

Washington, D.C.— Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) released the following statement in response to President Obama’s speech on the economy in Galesburg, Illinois:

“Today, President Obama laid out a strong framework for his economic agenda to get our country further down the road to recovery. I was encouraged to hear the President address poverty and the growing inequality in our country; his commitment to early childhood education, vital programs that protect vulnerable families, and creating good jobs that lift people into the middle class.

“The President also laid out the benefits that the Affordable Care Act has already brought us as well as committed to updating our infrastructure, protecting our environment, reducing gun violence, ending the war in Afghanistan, and standing up for civil rights and women’s rights.

“Unfortunately, Republicans in Congress continue to be obstructionist and not only refuse to help the country’s poor and vulnerable, but are actively making it harder for more and more Americans to climb the ladders of opportunity and achieve the American dream.”
