LCV has published a National Environmental Scorecard every Congress since 1970, the year it was founded by leaders of the environmental movement following the first Earth Day. LCV serves as the political voice of the national environmental and conservation community and is the only organization working full-time to educate citizens about the environmental voting records of Congress.
The National Environmental Scorecard provides objective, factual information about the environmental voting records of U.S. Representatives and Senators. The Scorecard represents the consensus of experts from numerous respected environmental and conservation organizations who selected the key votes on which members of Congress should be graded. LCV scores votes on the most important issues of environmental health and safety protection, resource conservation, and spending for environmental programs. Votes included in the Scorecard presented members of Congress with a real choice on protecting the environment and help distinguish which legislators are working for environmental protection.
