Lee, DeLauro Applaud Biden for Ending Support for Saudi-Led War in Yemen
State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Subcommittee Chair Barbara Lee (D-CA-13) and House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) today released a statement on President Joe Biden’s announcement that the United States will end its support for Saudi-led war operations in Yemen:
“President Biden’s announcement ending support for offensive operations in Yemen is the first step toward ensuring the United States is only engaging in humanitarian and diplomatic efforts to end the crisis in Yemen.
“This change in policy was critically necessary, and a welcome sign from this new administration that we will once again lead with diplomacy. Our work is not done, and there is much more necessary to promote peace in this region.
“We also applaud President Biden’s naming of Timothy Lenderking as Special Envoy for Yemen. His expertise will be critical toward achieving a negotiated solution to this crisis.
“This is a critical first step, and we look forward to working with the Biden administration to restore our global leadership around the world.”
