Barbara Lee Announces $800K in Federal Grants for Housing Counseling

Washington, D.C – Today, Congresswoman Barbara  Lee (D-CA) announced $814,488 in federal grants through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to NID Housing Counseling Agency (NID-HCA), which is headquartered in Emeryville, CA. These federal funds will be used to assist families and individuals with their housing needs and to prevent future home foreclosures.

“I am pleased that NIDHCA was selected for this competitive funding to provide housing counseling services to families,” said Congresswoman Barbara Lee. “Homeownership is key to catapulting families to the middle class and building wealth. I will continue to fight to ensure families have accurate information they need to purchase or retain their homes and secure their futures.”

This award is part of (HUD) the $40 million in housing counseling grants to 334 national, regional, and local organizations. As a result of these grants and the additional funding they help leverage, more than 1.6 million households will have a greater opportunity to find housing, make more informed housing choices or keep their current homes.

Founded in 1985, NID-HCA is a HUD-approved National Intermediary is the oldest and largest minority real estate trade association in the nation. NID-HCA delivers housing counseling and education services through its 33 local branches to minority communities in urban and suburban areas throughout 15 states in the country.  NID-HCA prepares communities with the education and resources to obtain fair, decent, and affordable rental housing and homeownership opportunities and create sustainable tenancy, homeownership and build intergenerational wealth. NID-HCA programs also seek to combat predatory and discriminatory practices that disproportionately impact minority communities and compromise quality of life due to unequal housing opportunities.
