Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Barbara Lee released the following statement today upon the Senate’s passage of S.815, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) by a vote of 64 to 32. ENDA prohibits discrimination in the workplace on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.

“As a co-founder and the vice chair of the LGBT Equality Caucus, I applaud the Senate for passing ENDA. We have a duty as a nation to not discriminate against anyone, and it is far past time that we end workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation or expression and provide protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals.  Passing ENDA is one more step towards creating a respectful and inclusive nation for all, and I urge Speaker John Boehner to act on the Senate’s bold leadership and schedule a vote in the House of Representatives.”
