Washington, D.C.— Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-13) offered the following statement in support of America’s troops and veterans in honor of  the upcoming Veterans Day holiday on November 11th:

“As the daughter of a veteran, I believe we have a moral responsibility to keep our promise to the men and women who have served our nation so bravely.  Veterans and their families deserve our full support and I will continue to fight to keep the promises made to our veterans who have answered our nation’s call.

“As heroes transition to civilian life, it is the duty of Congress to create sustainable jobs for the ten million unemployed veterans, provide affordable housing and healthcare, help keep food on the table by protecting SNAP benefits, and vigorously attack the veterans claims backlog.”

Congresswoman Lee has joined many of her colleagues in supporting the Veterans Mental Health Accessibility Act . This legislation takes another step in keeping promises to our troops and veterans returning from combat by providing hospital care, medical services, and nursing home care for any mental illness through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Additionally, Congresswoman Lee supports H.R. 1796, the Troop Talent Act of 2013, which would simplify the transition from the military to the civilian workforce.
